Revalidation: an onerous task?

The Royal Society of Medicine last week hosted an update on revalidation by Dr Clare
Gerada, the soon-to-be RCGP chair. Dr Gerada gave an overview of the current situation
and reassured audience members that revalidation will take effect from 2013.

Health White Paper means the death of revalidation

Within a White Paper that touches virtually every part of
the NHS, there is no mention of the word ‘revalidation’.

 

As we all know, the government has recently delayed
implementation of the scheme by a year, but does anyone now truly believe that
in the midst of the massive upheaval required to ‘liberate the NHS’ that time
and money will be spent on creating a new bureaucracy for revalidation?

GPs can be proud of the new CPD system

The RCGP has demonstrated considerable bravery in its
determination to create a new CPD system for GPs that attempts to reward
quality rather than quantity.

 

All of the medical royal colleges have adopted the
50-credits-a-year-system but only the RCGP has taken it a step further and
defined a learning credit as something more than simply a measurement of time
spent.
